He was a rockstar of the culinary world. Rest easy now, Bourdain.
One of the few idols I had left is dead. I watched his shows religiously. Bourdain’s culinary adventures became my obsession- I was able to travel the world through HIS eyes. His show was my foodie porn. What a masterpiece it was!
A few years back, Bourdain filmed his Filipino episode at my former co-star’s flat in Manila. I was so star struck by this fact and pumped my friend for all the info I could get.
My friend said he seemed tired and overwhelmed- or something to that effect. I don’t doubt that at all. His shooting schedule had to be extremely grueling.
CNN reports that he was found dead by hanging, in an apparent suicide, by his friend Eric Ripert. He left 2 ex-wives, a daughter, and his current girlfriend, actress Asia Argento, to mourn him along with the rest of us.
I don’t understand suicide, I wish I could understand it more. This tragedy brings to mind all of those people who survived loved ones that died in this manner. The families who will weep forever over the loss.
If you are contemplating suicide, I urge you, please rethink it. Get help, there is help available. Don’t let the world mourn what could have been. Don’t let your children grow up without a parent. Don’t let your parents have to bury their child.
When you kill yourself, you kill a bit of everyone around you.
We are all one, connected to each other through our joys and tragedies.
I had a lot of stuff happen since I blogged re the keto.
My son has lost almost 60 lbs since November- he is about 220 from about 280- solely from keto and he does most of his own cooking!
I will post pics of him soon!
I am also finally back to my fighting weight, lost probably 25 lbs since my last update- gained loads of muscle- but I was in Southern CA taking care of a relative who was injured in a motorcycle crash for months. Mostly exercise, fitbit, and keto, IF thrown in.
Unfortunately, am back home now and I will need surgery soon. I see a cancer specialist next week. A MRI diagnosed adenomyosis, which causes a painful and abnormally swollen uterus- lots of bloating and discomfort.
They have to check it for cancer after it is removed. My sister currently has cancer, so I am a bit worried. I am always tired lately.
Below are the newer pics, many after workout. I am so happy with my progress! I will never be thin, but I can be fit and STRONG.
today I rocked a keto chocolate souffle with freshly whipped cream- AND 2 NET CARBS! It tastes like a lava cake married a sponge cake… or a British steamed pudding.
Jess’ Keto Chocolate Souffle
- 2 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder OR raw cacao powder
- 2-3 tbs powdered erythritol or sweetener of your choice
- 2 tbs heavy cream
- 1 tbs melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1/4th tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4th-1/2 tsp baking soda
Mix everything well-
Grease ramekin or coffee mug and microwave 1-2 minutes-
Plate with freshly whipped cream.
SOOOO GOOD and sooo easy!
Yesterday, we made mozzarella stuffed meatballs with low carb Marinara- and chocolate keto mug cakes with freshly whipped cream- they were a huge hit!
If anyone is interested in the recipes, post below and I will type them out after I recover from bronchitis.
There is absolutely no way to make Lularoe leggings look flattering on me, but I am down 12 pounds in 11 days!
I am only 5’4 and a half, maybe, so I am not a tall, lithe person. I am extremely muscular and moderately active at the moment. I have not had the time I usually have to do yoga or get more than 10-12k fitbit steps in lately, so this is mostly from the keto diet and the ketone drink I started drinking less than 2 weeks ago. The drink helped me over the plateau weight I’ve been hovering at for a year.
I spent a couple of days playing baker and cheesemonger, with varying results.
Polymer clay food miniatures are so fun to make for a foodie who is currently on a 10 day juice cleanse.
I need to go back to bread and cheesemaking at some point, but I quit after a couple of days because I now have way too many loaves of bread and cheeses in my possession.
My first attempts at baguette loaves were made with sculpey clay and colored with turmeric and eye shadow/mineral makeup. My dad actually painted them for me. They came out a bit overbaked, but it was a great first attempt.
My second attempts (and subsequent ones) were better, I still need to refine my bread painting skills.
I also ended up making Norwegian lefse sticks and bread. Lefse is like a potato based flat bread, similar to a huge tortilla, that has it’s origins during the Viking age. In my house, we make it around Christmas time, because my ex is Norwegian. I will do a separate post on the lefse tomorrow…
My first attempt at a blue cheese ended up looking like spinach artichoke dipped stuffed into bread instead- yumm
I ended up making blue cheeses, brie, swiss, garlic gouda, and herb covered chevre. Cheese making is fun, I will eventually get back to it again.
