Part 6 of the Dumpster Diaries: I am convinced we will NEVER be done with this!

this is the perfect description of my life right now

this is the perfect description of my life right now- and looks like my kitchen.

Ok, on ‘paper’ it looks/sounds like we’ve done a ton of things. In reality, as I wade through laundry on my kitchen floor and boxes everywhere else, it doesn’t seem that way.

What we’ve done thus far:

1. Put a large antique cabinet and a few Fiesta Ware vases from the upstairs kitchen in my parents’ antique store.

my dad said I priced this too low.

2. Moved 2 bookshelves from the back room to the basement (I think they’ve been moved to the basement, that is).

3. I threw away another 5 bags of clothes from the back room. I have one built in drawer emptied.

4. Thew the old leather chair away and some other stuff.

5. I BELIEVE some laundry was done- but I can’t be sure.

6. Finally went grocery shopping with an EXTREMELY UNHAPPY TODDLER-$400 bucks worth of groceries bought and were somehow put away.

7. Got the dumpster rental extended for 20 more days

we extended the dumpster rental 20 more days- I don't think it will take 20 days to fill this completely

8. Weeded some of my garden and watered plants. Harvested 4 radishes. Should have taken photos, but I didn’t. Plus I did this all with the BABY ATTACHED TO MY BACK in a Korean baby carrier. I would have gotten more done (this was my break time/relaxing time), but she and I were overheating.

R goes back to work tomorrow and I am convinced I will never finish this. I am going to focus solely on laundry tomorrow. The other 2 males in the house will have to assist me, too. I HATE folding laundry. I LOATHE it. I will also work on tossing more clothes out of that back room.

It’s really difficult doing this with the baby. She is very ‘into’ everything right now. We really SHOULD have done this during the 6 months the manny was here.

Hindsight is 20/20…

I am hoping that the boys and I can empty the back room before R’s day off next Wednesday.

In the meantime, I also have to:

1. look for modular closet gadgetry/systems

2. get paint samples for the back room walls

3. empty the upstairs kitchen

I am sure I am forgetting something, but at this point I no longer give a f*ck.

Maisie likes to chase our three 150 lb (each) Newfoundland dogs…

Tiberius and his usual look when Maisie is afoot

Tiberius and his usual look when Maisie is afoot

(yeah, my house is a wreck.  I have 3 newfs blowing coat and our groomer is pregnant and hasn’t been able to groom them… sue me)

This kid has been pretty vocal today. She woke up from her nap and screamed:

“GEH UP!! GET UPPPP!!” until someone came to her rescue.

We own 3 Newfoundland dogs.  Their names are Berry (short for Strawberry), Scucca (pronounced “SHOOKA”), and Tiberius. They were my babies until she came along. The dogs weigh about 150 lbs (75 kilos-ish) a piece.  They are also TERRIFIED of the human puppy who chases them in her walker, on her knees, you name it… and tries to love them/pull their tails/drink out of their water bowls.

If you put them in the kitchen and shut the door, she will RAM her Joovy Groove walker into the door until they’re free.

She ADORES *all* dogs.  Every dog that visits, or is walked by our porch- she is waving, hollering “HI DOGGGG!”, trying to get to the dogs… all dogs ALL the time.

It’s exhausting.

I asked today if she could ‘be a doggie’ and she started barking at me in a convincing fashion.

Of COURSE, I couldn’t get that on video because she’s been Michigan J. Frog all week.

Getting photos or videos of her doing things is like having Michigan J Frog.

I’ve Given Birth To A 10 Month Old Foodie Who Demands Raw Green Onions, Persian Khoresht, And Crab Legs…

Maisie is a foodie, I can already tell this now.  She has been demanding everything we eat since about 5 months.  So far, there is nothing she won’t eat (except juice and milk). She sneaks drinks of black coffee or tea out of my cup, if I am not looking.

Spicy curries, Persian kebab, Vietnamese pho?  NOM NOM NOM will be her answer.

Garlic Okra Pickles?  MORE PLEASE!!

Crab legs?:  Don’t take her to an all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet, they WILL charge you!

Strawberries and raw green onions from the garden:  GOBBLES them up.

Unless it’s the odd organic veggie/fruit pouch or some baby cereal (rarely), she eats what we eat- in amounts that are astonishing.  She’s been clocking in between 25th-50th percentile for weight- and OFF THE CHARTS in height, consistently.

If I gave her avocado toast every morning, she'd be happy.

Today’s Breakfast Menu:

Eggs Scrambled with Dill
Sliced Tomatoes
Medjool Dates
Avocado Mashed w/Sriracha, S & P- on toast.
Water (because she seems to dislike juice and milk.  Getting her to drink her bottles is a chore)

Spaghetti, with a side of kale salad

I generally make enough to feed her, plus enough to throw on her table so she can ‘feed’ herself.  She is 10 months old, so her self-feeding skills are not quite spectacular, but our 3 Newfoundland dogs appreciate her technique.

Make no mistake- these are HER dogs.

I often wonder if she eats such a varied (and highly spiced) menu because that is what I ate during gestation and breast feeding.  I was RAW VEGAN and juicing prior to becoming pregnant (and during the first month).  I developed an insatiable craving for avocados straight away.  THAT led to a sudden and urgent need for chicken wings, which I despised pre-pregnancy.  Those chicken wings were the death knell to my healthy vegan lifestyle…

I feed her solids 3-4 times a day, not including her bottle feedings.  I am no longer breast feeding because I had issues with milk production due to an earlier breast lift and reduction years ago.

nomm... chicken...

oooh… chicken…

I am thankful that she has no food issues- I went through TWO picky eaters, my middle and youngest son.  My eldest boy was exactly like Maisie in terms of ‘foodiness’.  By the time he was two, Sam was leafing through magazines and asking me to cook him ‘magazine food’.

What IS a first for me is that she’s not overweight.  I thank my lucky stars that she did not seem to inherit my metabolism.
