Wet n’ Wild Ultimate Brow Kit Review: It’s Great ONLY If You Have NO Sweat Glands…

yeah, I didn't pluck my brows first... because I have a baby and my tweezers were all upstairs (and she screams when I leave the room)

…or if you don’t know that your brows are supposed to stay put, OR if you are stuck in air-conditioning all day and don’t plan on moving your facial muscles, MAYBE.

I will admit to having been VERY hesitant about spending even the paltry $3.99 it cost for this brow kit. I’ve read really good reviews about this product, so I figured what the hell… I am normally a bit snobby about this brand. I mean, it was ok 100 yrs ago when I was 17 and couldn’t afford makeup- but after 40, I couldn’t see myself doing this. After reading favorable reviews, I went ahead… I shouldn’t have even looked at this crap, seriously.

It’s 89 degrees with high humidity in Michigan today. That’s 31C for you Outlanders. Today was the ONLY day that I could justify slapping some makeup on for, because I had a birthday dinner to attend. I rarely wear makeup anymore, though I buy it with a sort of regularity that would kinda indicate I have a problem. I required an eyebrow that would look good AND not melt in this heat. This brow kit was NOT the right one to try out today.

it went on very unevenly. I looked like a failed drag queen.

Straight away the stuff did not look right. It didn’t apply nicely, didn’t stay put well. I am half-Asian, so I have naturally skimpy, weird eyebrows and NEED a little help in the brow/lash department. I use Latisse on both my brows and lashes (well, I started back on Latisse. I went off it when I was pregnant with Maisie). I am still in the early weeks of Latisse, so my brows and lashes are not yet at their optimal state.

I tried it, I didn't like it. Had to go over the entire thing with my trust Rimmel eyebrow pencil.

I don’t know about the reviewers that love this stuff. They must have luscious brows or lower expectations than I have.

Confessions of a Makeup Hoarder: My Upstairs Bathroom Makeup and Perfume Haul!

This was what I found in my upstairs bathroom. I usually only keep 'emergency' makeup here

This was what I found in my upstairs bathroom. I usually only keep ’emergency’ makeup here

Like I promised in my original blog post, I am going to start whittling down my GINORMOUS makeup collection.

My makeup purge-a-thon started with a cleaning of my upstairs bathroom. I rarely use this bath and keep just a minimal (for me) amount of ’emergency makeup’ there. I also have things I had forgotten about stashed in that room and my bedroom, too.

While I was at it, I decided to clean my bedroom as well. Until this week I had not slept there for about a year and a half-ish. I was on bedrest during my pregnancy, then recovering from the c-section- so the sofa was where I lived.

The makeup purge of my ‘small emergency stash’ in the bathroom turned up:

-5 different eyeshadow palettes
-37 lipsticks/lip glosses
-a dozen or more eye liners
-8 different mascaras
-A BRAND NEW IN BOX Bimatoprost (Latisse) eyelash growth medicine!

omg! this stuff is SO pricey! I can't believe I lost a brand new box of it!

-BRAND NEW Michael Kors perfume (xmas gift)
-Urban Decay Honey body powder- also BRAND NEW
-2 tweezerman tweezers
-7 different makeup pencil sharpeners
-4 eyebrow pencil/gel thingies
-Hard Candy blush
-assorted expired eye and face creams
-3 concealers
-MAC pigments
-a ton of makeup brushes (foundation, eyeliner, shadow, blenders, lip brushes)

I am very proud of myself- I was able to throw away all but 2 of the eyeshadow palettes (brand new Stila and an Urban Decay palette I thought I lost), the blush, most concealers, 80 percent of the brushes, all the mascara, eye creams, etc.

I was still left with a pretty impressive haul, including an amazing assortment of 15 lipsticks and glosses that I forgot I had. I had 2 of a particular color, which is a testimony to my sick hoarding habits.

the one on right is a MAC that I’d been searching for

Yeah… keep in mind, this is my SMALL stash. I’m really worried about what I will find when I clean out the downstairs bathroom.

My makeup addiction is out of control. I have to also say that I am very pleased that I did this purge. It was getting ridiculous. I don’t even wear makeup much anymore since this baby was born.

Well, at least the bathroom and my bedroom got a cleaning while I was at it…

Confessions of a Makeup Hoarder: It’s Time To Organize My Stash… And It’s The Most PAINFUL Thing For Me To Do.

pic is not actually *my* makeup, but you get the idea...

pic is not actually *my* makeup, but you get the idea…

I am a makeup hoarder. I admit it.

Am I the only one out there who has this same problem?

I think it started with my mother, who is an obsessive compulsive Filipino EVERYTHING hoarder. She used to get those Cosmetique monthly makeup subscriptions in the mail way back in the late 1970s-80s. Her bathroom was (and still IS) chock full of every makeup and perfume known to man. She even has lipsticks so old that the innards are a waxy, dry mess- but they are in gold metal cases and probably circa 1940s or 1950s, so she’ll never part with them.

my mom actually owns lipsticks like these!

My makeup stash, which consists of 2 or 3 professional trunk cases, one HUGE plastic 4′ tall cabinet with many drawers, and carelessly tossed beauty bags filled to the brim with things I’ve long forgotten about. I have Nars, MAC, Lorac, Chanel just tossed in with the L’Oreal, NYX, and Maybelline. Some of these cases haven’t even been OPENED in years. The last time I viewed the contents of one particular makeup trunk, I’d used it to do makeup for some stage production I acted in about 3 yrs ago.

It’s THAT bad.

Did I mention that I am not very organized? I always STRIVE to be, but somehow fall short…

I *know* that I need to throw away about 70-90 percent of the makeup I own. I actually WANT to do this- but it PAINS me, almost physically. Ok, I admit it. It *does* hurt physically.

I’m a mess.

My frugal bits remember how much some of this stuff cost and I cringe- CRINGE- when I think of tossing it in the rubbish pile. It makes absolutely NO sense, but that’s the truth of it.

I did the unthinkable this month and ordered subscriptions to Ipsy, Birchbox, and Birchbox Man in one fell swoop. I figured that I spend AT LEAST 40 bucks a month in miscellaneous beauty products, so it’s a good deal.  However, the thought of having more makeup and product haphazardly strewn around my house frightens me. I’ve already run out of room in my ‘makeup storage area’.

Even as I try to type this, my beauty product hoarding continues.  For example, I bought a kabuki set of 32 cosmetic brushes tonight on eBay. My reasoning was that I couldn’t find half of my (dozens) of current brushes and I distrust my brush cleaning skills. I also bought two 24 compartment acrylic lipstick organizers- they were a great deal. I like deals. I love lipstick… do you see the way my impetuous mind works here? Did I NEED any of these things?!

I found these in my upstairs bathroom. They are the exact same color. WHY did I need TWO of these?!

I found these in my upstairs bathroom. They are the exact same color. WHY did I need TWO of these?!

No. Nope. Sure didn’t.

So, instead of ACTUALLY CLEANING OUT my stash, I went on google to find other beauty hoarders.

I am delaying the inevitable, I know this.

Lo and Behold! I found the blog of a beauty hoarding person EXACTLY LIKE ME- I could have written that post- except I AM FAR, FAR WORSE!!

http://stylecaster.com/beauty-high/confessions-of-a-makeup-hoarder/#slide-2

I am going to start small- my upstairs bathroom has my ’emergency makeup’ in it. That is where the first of my purging endeavors will begin.

Wish me luck!
