Ipsy September 2015 Glambag Review!

Sept 2015 Glambag Goodies

I admit it, I love Ipsy.

I love it much more than Birchbox.

This month was no exception.

this month’s pouch was much cuter than the ugly houndstooth one last month

Every month they send wonderful full size or generously sized samples of beauty products. This month’s bag was fantastic and the pouch was cute, too.

This month’s glambag contained:

Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill tinted brow gel (full sized)FullSizeRender-8
City Chic lipstick (full sized)

not a bad lipstick- nice and sheer

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Ipsy ❤ NYX Eyeshadow Trio
Octavio Argan Oil

All of the products were great. The NYX shadows work best with a primer underneath. The eye gel was like Benefit’s, but NICER AND BIGGER. The lipstick was a winner as well.

One thing I DID NOT LIKE: I redeemed points I earned last month and was supposed to receive an eyeliner with this shipment. After tracking down the customer service email and writing to them, I still haven’t heard back. That was a disappointment.

Beauty Haul Preview: W7 IN THE NUDE & IN THE BUFF: LIGHTLY TOASTED plus almost EVERY NYX Eye Brow Product-

bought these for 7 bucks each on eBay- they arrived 3 days ago from the UK.

I did a quickie swatch thing on my arm and will say right now that without water or a primer, there will be issues with the lighter colors not showing up

the packaging was nice, I loved the little tins. Lighter colors are not as pigmented as I would like.

5 different NYX eyebrow products that I will be trying and reviewing soon

I will review these the next time I am able to wear makeup. Hoping the brow stuff works (at least ONE of them…)

I bought the NYX brow things in one fell swoop at Target the day that I did my failed Wet n Wild brow review.

W7 is a popular drugstore brand from the UK. Their nude eye shadow palettes have been making news on the interwebs as great dupes for Urban Decay’s Naked eyeshadow palette.

The W7 palettes require an eye shadow primer or water for the lighter colors. When I did a quick swatch test on my arm, they barely showed up.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Electric Blue, I wanted to love you, but you’re a creasing, smearing b*stard…

My actual eye pencil

Let me get one thing straight: I am generally a HUGE FAN of the makeup company NYX. Their products are sublimely affordable and of a higher quality (usually) than most drugstore brands.

If you want to know more about this company (which has since been sold to L’Oreal), read all about it here:

I love their Doll Eyes mascara- it holds tight, even in the most humid of circumstances. I also adore their lip glosses and BB cream and their fat eyebrow pencil with the ‘push up’ lighter color on the other side.

However, these jumbo pencils were a BIG let down. I own a several of these (thanks to great sales and an inability to stop buying makeup), but I am going to focus on my favorite, Electric Blue, for this post.

I admit, it may be partially my fault. I have extremely oily skin around my eyes as I get older. Raccoon eyes are a frequent problem now. I want to love this pencil so much- the color is so incredibly pigmented. It makes for nicely colored clown eyes an hour later. I did not try it yet with eye makeup primer, but that is my next goal.

Who am I kidding?  I have high-end eye pencils and gel pots in similar colors that don’t budge, even without primer.  I will probably stick to those.

I’d give this a 2.5 out of 5.

as much as it pains me to post this gross photo, I feel like I need to share my smeared, bloodshot raccoon eyes with the world…

For those who can’t figure out how to sharpen their jumbo pencils, see the video below-
