More Outschool for Homeschoolers: Recorder Class- 2nd Week

View this post on Instagram

Beginning #recorder is part of the Oak Meadow 1st grade homeschool curriculum. I, however, have zero patience teaching it, even though I have a rudimentary knowledge and even love of playing it since childhood.

In the mornings, my half century old brain cells can’t process the noise without coffee- so thank goodness for Outschool dot com and Miss Debbie’s class! (NO, I don’t represent Outschool… I just am obsessed with it. As a family that cannot afford another bout of #covid, this site has saved our sanity and helped Maisie continue supplementing her education in ways I never could have done alone- so y’all WILL be seeing tons more posts about our classes, sorry)

This is Maisie’s second week with her recorder class and we love it (especially ME. OMG. ESPECIALLY ME).

The teacher is so good with the littles and throws in loads music reading, cheer, history, and blurbs even the OM curriculum doesn’t cover.

I will be adding her link in the comments below and also making a bigger post about this class in my blog misssmaisieandme.com @oakmeadowschool #oakmeadow #oakmeadowcurriculum @earthschooling #earthschooling #earthschooling1stgrade #earthschoolingcurriculum #waldorf1stgrade #homeschooling #homeschool1stgrade #waldorfhomeschool #steinerhomeschool @virtuallearning #1stgrade #learnthroughplay #learningathome #homeschoolingbyheart #raisingthefuture #letthembelittle #homeschoollife #magicofchildhood #simplychildren #simplychildhood #unpluggedchildhood #childhoodunplugged #eclectichomeschoolers #outschool @outschool #remotelearning #covid19 #covid19survivor

Yeah, I am obsessed with outschool.com and no, I am not a rep (but, gosh, I should be at this point. I’m in love with it!)

Since we’re stuck in the house all day and I am not willing to risk our health again by taking classes in real time. Outschool and Zoom classes really help fill in gaps in her education- and also give her opportunities to take classes that would normally not be available to us locally, like hula dance class and a live native French immersion class (which she also takes- more about those in other posts).

We have access to these amazing teachers from all over the world, just at our fingertips!

I adore Oak Meadow, but I concede defeat in some of the subjects, like finger knitting and recorder. Outschool really helps me (and gives me short breaks to do my work, use the toilet, eat food, maybe comb my hair, hide in the closet pretending real life is around the corner).

Today, she learned about cleaning the recorder, how to recognize notes, some music history, and the song “Hot Cross Buns”. They are working on the B/A/G notes right now-

Miss Debbie’s class link on Outschool is HERE.
